How COCK of the WALK GOT ITS NAME
The Founders
of the very first Cock of the Walk Restaurant were - Sallie and Basil
Ballard, Weeta and Forrest Colebank and Ann and George Eyrich.
In
1977 these three couples after months of pure determination and
creativity, opened the Cock of the Walk on the bank of the Mighty
Mississippi Riverin Natchez, Mississippi.
Before they opened, they
spent countless hours pouring over old recipes and going to the library
to find the perfect name that would best describe the unique kind of
restaurant they would soon open. Cock of the Walk suited them because it
signified the Best of the Best! And thus the rest is history!
In the
early 19th century, America's waterways were the highways that were
used to transport products to market. Riverboating was a way of life
with it own traditions and customs. Every Keelboatman wanted to run
things his own way and there was many a bawdy brawl to find out who was
the toughest man on the Keelboat!
The ruler of the roost was called
the Cock of the Walk and to signify his rank he wore a red feather in
his black hat. So that is our goal - to be the Cock of the Walk, the
Best of the Best in all that we do. We hope you enjoy out tasty, scratch
cookin' and friendly, festive atmosphere! Thank you for dining with us
and please come back often.
